Presidents from Community Colleges Join NACCE Leadership Team

SPRINGFIELD, MA – May 15, 2012
– The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), the nation’s leading organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship through community colleges, has announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors. The new board members are: Cris Valdez, president of Edison Community College in Piqua, OH; Edwin Massey, president of Indian River State College, Fort Pierce, FL; and Susan May, president, Fox Valley Technical College, Appleton, WI.

"I am pleased that Cristobal Valdez, Edwin Massey, and Susan May have accepted our invitation to join the NACCE Board of Directors,” said Ron Thomas, chairman of the NACCE board and president of Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, MN. "They bring insight and a great deal of experience to the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship development at our community colleges. The NACCE vision of creating economic vitality through entrepreneurship has never been more vibrant than it is today. With the addition of our new board members, NACCE will continue to be front and center in the quest to support entrepreneurship across the country.”

Valdez became president of Edison Community College in 2011, having previously served as provost of the Detroit Lakes and Wadena campuses of the Minnesota State Community and Technical College. He is a long-time NACCE member and was formerly a columnist for NACCE’s quarterly journal. Massey has been president of Indian River State College since 1988; he recently oversaw the development and opening of the college’s new Brown Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. May has been president of Fox Valley Technical College since 2008; the college’s Venture Center offers a full array of educational programs and services for entrepreneurs and small business owners. All three new board members are also members of NACCE’s new President for Entrepreneurship Forum, through which they’ve signed on to five commitments designed to spur entrepreneurship in their communities.

NACCE, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, is an organization of educators, entrepreneurs, and distinguished business development professionals providing quality programs and services in entrepreneurship education and serving as advocates of community-based entrepreneurship education. Founded in 2002, NACCE is at the heart of the "entrepreneurship movement.”

Through membership, an annual conference and exhibition, quarterly journal, monthly webinars and podcasts, a dynamic list-serv, and other resources, NACCE serves as the hub for the dissemination and integration of knowledge and successful practices regarding entrepreneurship education and student business incubation. These programs and the courses advance economic prosperity in the communities served by its member colleges. NACCE is a founding member of the White House-led Startup America Partnership.
