Retrained _ Retooled

"In April, part two of the minidocumentary series Creating Opportunity After Coal aired on the public access station in Pikeville, Kentucky. The short documentary highlights the work at Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to provide new career pathways for laid-off coal miners. The film covers a range of entrepreneurial, traditional and emerging jobs that local workers are retraining for through the college.

The documentary was part of a series produced with support from a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC); it will be screened at the ARC Symposium in November. NACCE has been working with 11 colleges in the Appalachian region to train college leaders and faculty to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset. The mindset and tools include ecosystem mapping, curriculum for faculty, and two short documentaries to use in the classroom across disciplines and in the community. A key strategy has been sharing the story of opportunity and hope."
