Rising Tide Capital yesterday kicked off its third annual Global Entrepreneurship Week at City Hall in Jersey City to highlight local business and promote economic growth with free networking events and seminars on such topics as how to land bigger deals in the global marketplace.

This year, Global Entrepreneurship Week is being held in conjunction with Make My City, a week of discounts and events at local businesses. Combined, the programs offer over 50 workshops, free events and networking opportunities.

"Small business and entrepreneurs have always been at the forefront of leading this country out of economic tough times and I have no doubt that remains so today," Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy said yesterday.

The festivities also include the third annual Sustainable Cities Conference slated for Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., at City Hall, 280 Grove St.

"I applaud Rising Tide Capital and Alfa Demmellash for continuing to help anyone with a dream and the heart to achieve it," Healy said. "That makes Jersey City not only a stronger community, but a place in which local businesses can thrive."

Demmellash founded Rising Tide in 2004 with her Harvard classmate and husband Alex Forrester. The Jersey City nonprofit offers intensive business training, coaching and mentoring to help entrepreneurs operate small businesses.

Today's events include "The Secret of Earning Money," a free morning seminar at Hudson County Community College; an MBA information session at St. Peter's College; and "International Trade: Tapping the Global Marketplace" at New Jersey City University.
