Ice House Entrepreneurship Program Facilitator Training

Date & Time: Friday, October 6 – Sunday, October 8

Location: Entrepreneur Collaborative Center 2101 E. Palm Ave. Tampa, FL 33605

Audience: Open to all sectors including public, private, and non-profit

Description: The Ice House Entrepreneurship Program is an experiential, problem-based learning program designed to inspire and engage participants in the fundamental aspects of an entrepreneurial mindset. To become certified to facilitate the Ice House Program and learn how to implement within your organization or community, you are invited to participate in the two and a half day facilitator training. The facilitator training consists of the following participant outcomes:

  • Participants will understand entrepreneurship as a mindset that can empower anyone to succeed.
  • Participants will learn to facilitate the eight life lessons, by engaging in the Ice House entrepreneur video case studies and discussion questions.
  • Participants will engage in the entrepreneurial process through the Ice House Opportunity Discovery Process designed to immerse participants in real-world entrepreneurial circumstances that will enable them to develop entrepreneurial attitudes, behaviors, and skills.

GrowthWheel Certification Course


Date & Time: Saturday, October 7 – Sunday, October 8

Location: Ybor Room, Ybor City Campus of HCC (2112 North 15th Street Tampa, FL 33605)              

Audience: Business advisors, incubator managers and entrepreneurship educators

Description: At the 2-day GrowthWheel Certification Course participants will learn to use the GrowthWheel Toolbox and approach to business advisory and client relation management. The course is a fast-paced mix of presentations, open discussions, case studies, independent work and group work activities.

The purpose of the certification course is:

  • To become GrowthWheel Certified Business Advisor and get a license to use GrowthWheel Tools and the GrowthWheel Online Platform unlimited individually with all client companies or in group sessions.
  • To learn how to use the GrowthWheel Toolbox with very different client companies and mix the tools with other industry best practice tools like Business Model Canvas and more.
  • To become co-creator of GrowthWheel by joining the hundreds of advisor who have submitted suggestions to help the GrowthWheel Toolbox become what it is today. 

The outcome to expect from the GrowthWheel Certification Course is:

  • To be able to attract the best client companies and maintain the relationship by working with a 360° perspective, focusing strictly on the top priorities and production actionable output from each interaction.
  • To significantly increase the productivity of the time spend on one-to-one advisory sessions by using visual tools and a structure process adapted to the individual client company.
  • To obtain 5-start ratings from clients by offering a process and a relationship which empowers the clients to make decisions, set agenda, and take action.

Description: Community colleges face an ever-changing landscape with new funding models, a vital focus on student completion, and a significant pool of current leaders approaching retirement. Progressive institutions are searching for entrepreneurial solutions in resource-constrained environments, and leaders that have an entrepreneurial mindset to tackle the challenges ahead.

Entrepreneurial Problem-solving: Creating Hands-on
Learning Activities That Benefit Our Communities

The goal of this workshop is to expand the capacity of community college entrepreneurship education programs in community colleges so we can partner effectively with our communities for collaborative problem solving. In facilitated group exercises, the participants will apply the principles of experiential learning to create hands-on learning activities to engage students in identifying problems and proposing solutions that contribute to the sustainability and health of their communities.

Using community interaction as a teaching strategy, entrepreneurship curriculum can actively engage students in the learning process in a reflective and critical way. A symbiotic relationship exists between the community colleges and their entrepreneurial communities. For example, the community provides experiential learning opportunities for entrepreneurship students through case studies, internships, guest speakers, adjunct instructors, and student mentors. In turn, the community benefits from its connection to the community colleges, which provide students who learn to recognize problems and collaborate in building solutions. As entrepreneurship students engage with their communities, they become a pipeline for learning and innovation for local businesses and organizations.

Entrepreneurship curriculum can provide learning activities of personal and public concern that are meaningful to the students and socially beneficial to the community. As an example of a hands-on project, students in a business writing course chose to address affordable housing for their community. They conducted primary research and secondary research and prepared a business report. Then they made an oral presentation to the elected officials and interested community members at a public City Council meeting.

Upon leaving the session, participants will be able to:

  • Embed an experiential learning activity developed in the workshop into an entrepreneurship course that connects students with their communities and solves a common problem.
  • Facilitate a workshop at their institution on how entrepreneurial problem solving can engage students and benefit communities.
  • Participate in a network of faculty and administrators to promote civic and community engagement through entrepreneurship education.

The Future of Community College Leadership: Challenges & Opportunities

Description: The presentation will examine issues that may signal real challenges for community colleges. There are many solid, necessary causes and institutions that deserve adequate, mission-appropriate resources. There is considerable evidence to suggest that the community college is among that group. For sure, the community college has played a significant role in providing training and education with mission, programs and participants quite different from the traditional higher education model. But where will mission-appropriate sustainable financial support come from? We know from the AACCT survey data gathered in 2015, that as many as 80% of current presidents and CEO's plan to retire during the ten-year period ending 2025. Where will the new group of world class, value-centered, entrepreneurial leaders come from? New forms of partnership between two-year and four-year institutions are needed to respond to the rapidly growing challenges confronting community colleges. We must join with our supporters in business and civic organizations, government and private philanthropy to make the case for sustainable increased support. Perhaps most importantly, we must open more fully, the doors to the value-reality of full blown “diversity”. This presentation offers suggestions for how institutions and individuals get from where community colleges appear to be at this point to where the new challenges we face might require us to go.


  • Identify new challenges facing community colleges.

  • Explore new opportunities evolving from the new challenges community colleges face.

  • Leverage strategies to improve their own opportunities for success at high levels of community college administration.
