The workshop includes a fab lab experience, visits to incubators and partner facilities and an evening at the Steel Stacks entertainment complex.  The agenda is loaded with information and experiential activities and is assured to provide insight for building a fab lab quickly, while striving to realize financial sustainability.

The goal of the workshop is for attendees to understand what is required to launch and grow a unique and successful fab Lab for their community. It is not exactly what you would expect. The unique methods practiced by the NCC Fab Lab have proven successful. You will meet some of the twenty six process instructors and you will be introduced to TOBOR the GREAT, the Fab Lab’s fourteen foot Robot. Speakers will include college administrators, city officials, major university partners and more. Attendees will leave with a whole new perspective on fab lab development as well as a network of entrepreneurial-minded friends to provide support and idea exchanges. Jeffrey Boerner's Bio

Jeffrey Boerner is the Program Director of NCC's Fab Lab. He came to Northampton in 2011 after having been president and owner of a successful architectural woodworking company in Bucks County for 27 years.

Jeffrey graduated from Millersville University with an Industrial Arts degree. Through his foundational background in IA and his years of manufacturing experience, Jeffrey has been instrumental in growing the Fab lab into a diverse program filled with the latest technologies as well as many old world specialties. Jeffrey sold his business in 2007 and then followed his dream of writing a novel. In 2010 his novel, GoneAway, was published and in 2011 was optioned for film by a prominent Los Angeles production company.

In 2004 Boerner earned his 50 ton Coast Guard Captains License. In 2006, from the Upper Bucks County Chamber, he was awarded the Colonel Holt Business Owner of the Year Award. In 2013 he was the recipient of NCC's Excellence in Non-Credit Instruction Award and that same year he accepted the Pennsylvania Fine Arts Award on behalf of the Fab Lab.

Boerner was named Fab Lab Program Director in November of 2013 and began the process of reorganizing the Fab Lab to include over 70 courses, 22 new instructors, and over a thousand additional square feet of lab space.  The future is bright for the NCC Fab Lab as it forges ahead to the 2018 opening of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
