E-ships and STEM

Posted By North Iowa Area Community College _, Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Been trying to answer a couple of questions and hoping that NACCE-Nation could help!

How could we offer students more opportunities to be innovative while strengthening the STEM talent pipeline.

How can entrepreneurship help to strengthen STEM education?

Thoughts, ideas, examples on how this is being done at your school or in your area?

One of the best avenues to explore would be to allow STEM students to work on projects on behalf of the local companies needing help expanding their business. With budget under constant scrutiny, it tends to be beneficial to both parties: The students get "hands on" training or a final report to keep; the company gets research completed that otherwise might cost them thousands of dollars.

The more you connect our students to the "real world," the more they appreciate the experience of college while also cutting down on possible training time for those students who find partnering with a STEM related company really interesting.
