NWCCD WFTD Delighted to Promote Entrepreneurship among Downtown Sheridan Businesses

Posted By Sheridan College _, Tuesday, December 7, 2010

Sheridan College Workforce Training and Development is delighted to receive the Coleman Foundation Grant to start an  Entrepreneurship Program Sheridan, WY.

The proposed project by Sheridan College Workforce Training and Development  is Project: Destination Sheridan.  This partnership project works with the Downtown Sheridan Association to not only help implement the entrepreneurship program at Sheridan College but to help our Downtown Businesses grow to become destination points rather than pass throughs.

Project: Destination Sheridan has been designed to support existing entrepreneurs to grow and build successfully through this time of downturn in the economy and beyond.  Through Project: Destination Sheridan, Sheridan College, Workforce Training and Development will assist local entrepreneurs to capitalize on the influx of tourists throughout the year by coaching them on how to build entrepreneurship sustainability through Branding, Marketing, Tourism and Downtown Development.

Through this project, businesses will learn tips and ideas how to improve their bottom line by building and retaining a solid local customer base as well as capturing out-of-town customers before they come. Activities for this project will include: · Monthly workshops offered to the local downtown entrepreneurs. Topics for the monthly workshops may include such as branding, public relations versus advertising, social media networking, how to differentiate yourself, visual merchandising, curb appeal, hours of operation, how to attract customers without advertising, creating a web presence (capture them before they come). · A bi-monthly email newsletter will provide the entrepreneurs with timely tips and seasonal ideas they can implement and see results immediately. The newsletter will focus on topics such as the seasonality of the customers such as families in the summer, hunters and other outdoorsmen in the fall, display and sale themes and promotions, customer service/relationship building, building business retention, expansion, and recruitment strategies that work in concert with existing businesses, and build financial and technical assistance for the business owners as well as ideas from other successful businesses.

Project: Destination Sheridan anticipates beginning their first monthly workshop in December, 2010 and their first newsletter in November, 2010. The project grant timeline to build the excitement and the interest and to spread the word about this educational opportunity for local entrepreneurs will go from November 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

We very much appreciate the support we have been given from the Coleman Foundation and look forward to the opportunity to work with the downtown businesses to help continue to make Sheridan a destination.

Our first newsletter went out on November 22 and our first workshop - "Maintaining Positive Attitudes Through the Holidays" is scheduled for Thursday, December 9.  I have attached a copy of the first newsletter that I copied into a pdf file.

I very much would appreciate any feedback as we continue to grow our Entrepreneurship program and help our downtown businesses grow and prosper.

Thank you,

Karen St Clair,

Director, Workforce Training and Development
