November for Bunker Hill Community College

  • GEW.  Events included a week-long series of events featuring local entrepreneurs that "Think Green”.  Guest speakers include Sushil Bhatia, Executive in Residence,  Sawyer Business School, Suffolk University, Charlestown law firm, McCullough, Stievator & Polvere, LLP,  John Pepper, Founder and CEO, Boloco Restaurants, Gary David of Bentley University, Dan Curtin of zipcar,  C.A.Webb of Preserve Products and Andrew Prescott, Chief Wheel Officer, Urban AdvenTours - Boston Bicycle Tours and Rentals and YEA student presenters.  Marketing presentations made by the Young Entrepreneurs Alliance (YEA) to BHCC business students, members of the CCE external advisory committee and members of the business community. BHCC students submitted evaluations of the presentations made by the YEA.
  • Global Entrepreneurship Week events were a success.  Over 345 people attended the 6 events held throughout the week.  A lot of positive feedback and new relationships for the CCE and BHCC.  Sushil Bhatia to possibly come back to speak in the spring about sustainability and how to incorporate sustainability into business courses.  Exploring the idea of hosting an iron chef-like competition in BHCC kitchens for Boloco and including Mike Harder, Boloco CFO and President on Hospitality Department advisory board.  Exploring a zipcar presence on BHCC’s campus.  Exploring feasibility of a student-led business at BHCC similar to YEA.  Overall and GEW events increased campus-wide enthusiasm for entrepreneurship as a means to build relationships and create pathways for BHCC students. 
  • Intern from Simmons College continues to research the viability of a non-credit entrepreneurship certificate program and drafting a proposal for a 2-week pathways to college summer camp program for high school students.
  • Continued work with the MA State Office of Small Business and Entrepreneurship to schedule a restaurateur entrepreneur to speak.  Potential speaker selected, Darryl Settles, restaurateur entrepreneur, owner of the Beehive in Boston. Targeted event date is late February 2010.
  • Continued work with 2 BHCC students on development of Facebook page for CCE.  This month CCE content was added including all programming for GEW week.  Used CCE Facebook page to post info on GEW events other entrepreneurship Facebook pages and local business association page. 
  • Entrepreneurship Craft Option (designed for North Bennett Street School students and graduates) approved by BHCC’s Curriculum Committee.  It now goes for approval to the College Forum.
