Launching E-Ship Online

Guide Description:
Taking a program online presents an incredible opportunity to reach new students. It also presents many challenges to ensure that the quality of learning is not compromised. Come learn the strategies and practices we developed to ensure that our online courses adhered to the highest standards for online courses.

Full Description:

By offering the courses in an Entrepreneurship program online, a college can significantly increase enrollment by attracting students who might not otherwise be able to participate in an on-site program because of geographical or scheduling issues. However, ensuring those online courses are high-quality learning experiences can be very challenging particularly when instructors are part-time and may not be familiar with the best practices for teaching online.

Delgado Community College’s Business Department has developed and instituted a system which ensures that the online learning sites are content rich sites developed according to the best practices for online pedagogy and the instructors are trained to maximize their effectiveness online and are properly supported in the online environment.

The workshop will cover how we obtain and evaluate the online content as well as cover our training program to ensure that our online courses adhere to the standards set forth by Quality Matters ™.

A major component of our online strategy is to ensure content-rich interactive sites. The Department's course designer creates the master sites with the foundation of departmental and publisher content and then each instructor adds additional content and assignments.

To preview how this works, you can go to our Blackboard site at

use the user id proctor and the password proctor

You will see our master site for "Starting a New Business" and a completed instructors' site for "Principles of Marketing".

The bulk of the instructional content can be found under the "Assignments" link on the left.

Here is a link we provide our students to explain how to use Blackboard and the course sites.
